Earlier this month, a mutual restraining order was issued during the divorce proceedings of a Michigan county sheriff and his former spouse.
Originally a request for a personal protection order (PPO) had been submitted by Brenda Cleeves-Reich after her former husband, Sheriff Tom Reich, filed for divorce in late April. However, a judge denied the PPO a day after it’s filing, electing instead to issue a mutual restraining order. According to court documents, the restraining order resolves the matters of the requested PPO.
Court records also revealed that Cleeves-Reich requested the PPO after a domestic dispute at the couple’s home in Eaton Rapids. Though no arrests were made, state police were dispatched to the scene.
Under the terms of the new order, both parties agreed not to stalk or assault the other, and are prohibited from entering the property where the other resides. The order also extends to each individual’s place of work, and prohibits taking the other’s property.
